Technology and the Human Race

This was on the TV in my office kitchen this morning. So, I watched the bit. Very interesting, as I have been thinking about this for a while.
The question on the screen so simply puts the question I have been internally wrestling with. Are the technological advancements we are making actually hurting us? Are we blindly walking into an age that is defined by computers and applications doing most of the tasks we humans would have done ourselves anyways? I mean, my son will not spend their time opening up a paper map and finding his destination on it, let alone follow the map to his destination.
All I know is that we are never going back to what it was. So, what is our responsibility as the human race now? Is it our job to get ahead of the technology tidal wave and shape it’s future impact on us?
